What a boost for town

What a boost for town

Article from The Hills Shire Times 21 August 2018

THE 620km between Walgett and Castle Hill has just narrowed as The Hills helps struggling farmers survive the drought.

Castle Hill RSL Club has partnered with Walgett RSL Club and IGA supermarket to help farmers and ensure the towns’s small businesses stay afloat.

Castle Hill RSL Group chief executive officer David O’Neil hatched the idea with his long-time mate and Walgett RSL Club secretary manager Paul Clarke.

The scheme allows shoppers at IGA Knightsbridge to purchase gift cards that will be spent by Walgett residents. The supermarket will also donate 100 per cent of profits towards the Walgett IGA, the town’s major supermarket, to bouy business and employment. The club is working with the Farmers’ Association to distribute the vouchers.

Castle Hill RSL Club has already approved a $10,000 donation of vouchers.

Mr O’Neil encouraged the community to do the same.
