The Department of Veteran's Affairs administers the policies of the Federal Government of the day in relation to the benefits available to Australian Veterans.
The term 'Veteran' is sometimes used incorrectly when referring to the ex-servicemen and women who have served in all wars and conflicts. A 'veteran' must meet the criteria laid down in the various acts governing these policies.
All Veterans of WWII should now be in possession of a Repatriation Gold Card, which entitles the recipient to treatment for all medical conditions. This came into force from 1 January 1999. Ex-Service persons who are in receipt of DVA Disability Pension will be in possession of a Repatriation White Card, which entitles that person to receive treatment for all accepted disabilities.
