Welcome to Castle Hill RSL
President’s Report CASTLE HILL RSL Insight ANZAC Edition 2012
It is pleasing that some reality has surfaced regarding the Wilkie/Gillard anti club proposals and whilst the threat to your Club has diminished there remains much to be concerned about. The negativity of Wilke/Gillard is in contrast to the measured positive approach of the State Government. It remains critical that clubs are able to survive and provide the support and services they do to their members and communities. We remain committed to providing measures to assist problem gamblers.
Your Board would wish to record the efforts of our internal Sporting Clubs as they cater for the diverse interests of our members and also acknowledge the work of our bands. The Youth Orchestra, and both the Parramatta and Castle Hill Pipe Bands provide not only enjoyment for members but also represent both of our Clubs as they support a range of community activities. Their presence at a range of ANZAC Day activities and community functions always reflects credit on them and add colour to the activities.
Members will see in a number of areas of the Club that construction and alterations are underway. There are three areas, these being extensions to our outdoor gaming area, renovations to the auditorium and the completion and upgrade of our pre-function area. This is a large multi-purpose area which is adjacent to the auditorium and which will be linked to it. The Club each year supports two young Australians participating in the Kokoda Trek and this year Natasha Needs addressed the February Board Meeting as to her experiences on the 2011 Trek.
Our current participant is Mitchell Hayes and he will undertake his Trek in late 2012. This program not only gives participants a firsthand understanding of Kokoda and those young Australians who defended Australia but also provides an excellent development experience for all who participate.
Recently Castle Hill has been very proud to have raised over $25,000 in the Western Sydney Academy of Sport Benefit, and $74,000 for Darren Ashford a talented extreme sportsman who became a paraplegic in a trailbiking accident.
Our gymnasts also continue to excel with Castle Hill RSL Gymnastics Club being the overall Club of the Year and Trampoline Sports Club of the Year for the 3 year running. Belinda Cox won the NSW Elite Trampoline Coach and National Elite Coach of the Year and Matt Weal won the NSW Elite Trampoline Athlete of the Year and National Junior Athlete of the Year.
We are also very proud that C2K continues to be recognised at the highest level and is a NSW Institute of Sport Registered Training facility with athletes represented across swimming, men’s artistic gymnastics, women’s artistic gymnastics, netball, cycling and track and field.
